Mauricio Pochettino insists PSG will do ‘everything they can’ to keep Kylian Mbappe

Mauricio Pochettino insists PSG will do ‘everything they can’ to keep Kylian Mbappe but admits the French side will have to ‘change his mind’ with forward’s contract set to expire next summer amid Real Madrid interest

  • Kylian Mbappe’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires in the summer of 2022
  • The 22-year-old star forward has admitted that he wanted to leave last summer
  • Yet PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful of convincing Mbappe to stay
  • The France international has said Real Madrid are the only club he’d leave for

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed his determination to keep Kylian Mbappe at the club in the long term.

The 22-year-old’s deal at the Parc des Princes expires next summer and he will be free to talk to foreign clubs from January, with a free transfer in 2022 looming.

Mbappe admitted in recent weeks that he wanted to leave in the summer – and would only leave for Spanish giants Real Madrid – but Pochettino insists the Ligue 1 club will do their utmost to keep Mbappe in Paris.

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed his determination to keep Kylian Mbappe in Paris

‘Mbappe is fine, he’s a calm boy with a lot of personality and a very sociable character, he is clear about things and loves football, he’s very mature for 22 years old,’ he told COPE and Radio MARCA

‘Kylian will make the decision he has to make and the club will do everything possible to keep him, because we’re taking about one of the best players in the world at 22.

‘I’m left with the fact that the situation is open and in the future anything can happen, the position of a few months ago may change in the future.

‘PSG as a club certainly have the ambition and ability to persuade him and offer him things so that he can stay and be happy, the possibilities that he could change his mind are there.’

Pochettino also gave an update on the fitness of Sergio Ramos, who is yet to play for the club since joining in the summer.

‘Unfortunately, Ramos hasn’t started training with the group yet, but he is close,’ Pochettino added.

‘We’re happy with his progression, he’s a great champion and someone who isn’t going to doubt his qualities and footballing talent, he’s not having a good time right now but he is strong.

‘Hopefully he can return to the national team, but that is a question for Luis Enrique, Ramos at his best is undoubtedly one of the best centre-backs in world football.’
