Qureshi, UAE FM agree to strengthen cooperation

ISLAMABAD:

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi received a telephone call from his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Wednesday.

During the call, the two ministers discussed various dimensions of Pakistan-UAE relations and agreed to strengthen cooperation in all fields. They also resolved to continue their close collaboration in various multilateral fora, said a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

FM Qureshi congratulated his counterpart on making excellent arrangements for Dubai Expo2020 and hoped that the event would be a resounding success.

The two ministers also agreed to remain in close contact on bilateral matters as well as regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, the statement added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Taliban administration announced that Qatari and UAE teams will remain in Afghanistan until Kabul airport is fully operational for international flights.

“International flights have already begun, with many flights bringing humanitarian aid from Qatar, the UAE, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan landing here, but the airport is not fully operational,” Mawlavi Abdul Hadi Hamadan – acting head of Hamid Karzai International Airport – stated.

According to Hamadan the UAE team has informed him that they have already spent $1 million renovating one of the terminals.

Last week the UAE announced that residents who had been fully vaccinated with a shot approved by the World Health Organisation could return as of September 12 from a list of previously suspended countries, including Pakistan.
